BURKE, SD – The inaugural class of Billie Sutton Leadership Institute fellows met in Pickstown, SD this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the second leadership seminar since the launch of the Sutton Leadership Institute last spring.
Billie Sutton, founder of the Institute, said this about the program's second leadership training seminar:
"It's an honor to gather together some of South Dakota's brightest up-and-coming leaders. Sutton Leadership Fellows will undoubtedly change the face of our communities through brave and bold action. I'm inspired by their stories and the work they are doing for a stronger South Dakota."
Fellows attending the weekend events describe the Sutton Leadership Institute this way:
"The Billie Sutton Leadership Institute gives Fellows the skills and support necessary to successfully lead change in their communities."
"It is a hands on fellowship based on education guidance and action. It is based on common sense approaches to leadership to assist fellows in pursuing and affecting change in their communities."
"This program is creating a web of change-makers and visionaries that will inevitably create positive change in communities across South Dakota."
At the weekend training seminar, Sutton Leadership Fellows worked on community engagement plans, practiced project management, discussed civic engagement, toured local historic sites, learned more about corporate and nonprofit leadership, and built stronger relationships with Billie Sutton and other change makers in South Dakota.
Applications for next year's Billie Sutton Leadership Institute class will open in early 2020.
The non-partisan Billie Sutton Leadership Institute is dedicated to inspiring and preparing the next generation of leaders to build a stronger South Dakota and more vibrant communities and workplaces through service to others. Billie Sutton is a former state senator, 2018 candidate for governor of South Dakota, and founder of the Billie Sutton Leadership Institute.
