BURKE, SD – Billie Sutton, former state senator and 2018 candidate for governor of South Dakota, today announced the launch of the non-partisan Billie Sutton Leadership Institute dedicated to inspiring and preparing the next generation of leaders to build a stronger South Dakota and more vibrant communities and workplaces through service to others.
Regarding the launch of the leadership organization, Billie Sutton said:
“After receiving so much support from the community following my rodeo accident, public service became an important part of my life as a way to give back. I’m excited to help instill a desire to serve in others and help prepare the next generation of leaders to build a stronger South Dakota! We all have the ability to make our communities stronger, and this is just one of the ways I hope to make a better tomorrow for South Dakota.”

The Billie Sutton Leadership Institute is a free, year-long leadership development program for a selective class of young professionals, community leaders, local elected officials, and people interested in public service or getting more involved in their community. Sutton Leadership fellows will gain the skills and confidence to build and carry out plans to make a difference in their communities with compassion and courage.
